Ear infections and Chiropractic
If you are a parent, it’s hard to keep up with all the things your child may be getting into. You might be wondering why your child seems so susceptible to ear infections; in the United States, five out of six children experience an ear infection by three years old. The reason why children are more prone to ear infections is due to their immature Eustachian tube, or middle part of ear. The tube size in infants is approximately 17.5 mm while the tube length of an adult is 37.5 mm. There is also a 30 degree difference in children versus adults. Their tube angle is 10 degrees while an adults’ is 45 degrees. The shorter and less steep angle is considered to be one of the factors increasing a child’s risk for ear infections.
While the child’s ear begins to grow, along with the rest of the body, it is important to ensure all structures that innervate and affect the body are in proper alignment. Proper structure equals proper function. The nervous system controls everything in the entire body. It is so critical to our body’s function that it is house and protected by the spinal column. What chiropractors do is assess the structure of the spine to ensure that the nervous system is working at 100%. This includes the function of the Eustachian tube and the ear. When there is interference presence, the immune system is not working as well as it should be which in turn another contributing factor to ear infections in children becomes. When a chiropractor adjusts this interference, the immune system is able to function properly and help to aid the body’s ability to heal itself.
Chiropractic care is safe and extremely effective in children. Children respond rapidly to adjustments as they are continuously developing. Chiropractors use safe and effective techniques when adjusting kids that limit force and rotation with tools such as an activator, impulse and toggle technique. All of the chiropractors at Team Chiropractic are proficient in these techniques and will be happy to do an assessment on your child.
