Headaches are one of the most common disorders in the United States today. It is estimated that headaches account for approximately 120 million missed work days per year. But even though they are common, this does not mean that they are normal.
Think about it. We all know that cavities in teeth are extremely common. But we also know that we are not supposed to have them. Common and normal are not the same thing.
So why do we get headaches?
Headaches can come from a variety of sources, and it is important to differentiate the cause so you can find the solution. However, by far the most common source of headaches is cervicogenic (originating from the structures and tissues of the neck).
When spinal subluxation (misalignment of vertebra) is present in the neck, it puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the nerves of the neck as well as the spinal cord. This will also apply extra tension to the muscles supporting these subluxations. This combination of factors is what will trigger common headache symptoms.
Through specific spinal re-engineering chiropractic adjustments, this nerve pressure and muscle tension can be relieved; and thus headache symptoms can be improved and even eliminated all together!
Furthermore, other forms of headaches related to various hormonal imbalances can be impacted through chiropractic adjustments in the middle and lower back region as well. The organs that support proper hormone response all have nerves that allow them to function properly. By performing specific spinal re-engineering adjustments to the vertebra surrounding those nerves, function can by optimized, and relief can achieved.
